This guy is only 21! That’s crazy.
My roommates and I went skydiving last weekend. It was amazing. I did numerous jumps in Airborne School while I was in the army, but they were low combat jumps of around 1,500 feet. You don’t really get to free fall as your shute is pulled by a static line. This jump this weekend was around 15,000 feet and we got to free fall for close to a minute.
It was such an amazing experience. I could see myself getting into this. I really like the idea of doing this with the suits in the above videos and doing jumps from cliffs and canyons.
You guys ever do anything like in this video? These guys are maniacs!

Confront Your Mortality – the Sublime

Chapter 10
Most people do not like the thought of being reminded they’re mortal and going to die one day. They cling to the illusion that they have all the time in the world. On the other hand, it’s best to confront the reality, accept it, embrace it, and convert this consciousness in something positive. In the face of our mortality, we can identify what is truly important, and have a sense of urgency and mission. In addition, we appreciate life all the more for its impermanence. When we overcome the fear of death, then there is nothing left to fear.
When 50 cent felt as if he had too much to lose and he held on to others or to deal out of fear of the alternative, he ended up losing a lot more. When I tried so hard to keep my position and resources, I ended up losing as well. You have to always be willing to identify what you’re willing to lose, and you have to always be willing to walk away. A person of value always has other options, and if for some reason he/she doesn’t, at least they can rest assured in themselves that they stuck to their principles.
In terms of confronting our mortality, I’m all for it. I don’t want to deceive myself by distracting myself from thoughts of death, because death is inevitable. There were times I was trying to get in the moment to truly enjoy it, but now I realize part of the motivation was to distract myself from how I knew I was going to die in the future and how short life is. Coincidentally, now that I understand and feel my mortality, it’s what makes the present moment all the more beautiful. When you realize you only have so many times to meet people, form romantic connections, and experience life’s beauties, that’s when it becomes all the more poignant and stronger to you. Now, I do lose sight of it sometimes, but I think this serves a great reminder to really do what you want to do each day. If you see that incredibly pretty girl walking past you on the street, why not go up to her and talk to her? Life’s too short.
In Stanford’s 2005 commencement speech, Steve jobs said, “For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
The stoic philosopher Seneca mentioned that man is born to live, not to PREPARE to live. And in order to truly live, we have to be prepared to die. I feel this last chapter really is the most powerful, because it is a stark reminder that now is the time to chase our dreams, pursue what we want, and take time in each day to see and truly appreciate the beauty around us.
Only when we get over the fear of death can we truly live life to its fullest. I’m still working on that.

- Explains how we must stop fearing death. If we take on death, and realize that it will happen, it can enhance how we live our lives. We must realize that we are lucky to be alive, and that we cannot be scared of death because it will happen. We must take advantage of the time we have because we are already lucky to even be living one day.
- If you live your life trying to accomplish your goals, you will end up dying with no regrets, whenever it is.
- This ties into past chapters. For example, when we are bored. If we use that free time to enhance our mind, we can grow. If we realize death will happen and we stop fearing it, we can even enhance that boredom time even more because we will feel the urgency to fulfill our life long goals.

Push Beyond Your Limits – Self-Belief

CHAPTER 9- PUSH BEYOND YOUR LIMITS- SELF BELIEF
- Aim high as possible and truly believe that you are destined to do what your goal is. If you truly believe you were meant to be something, than nothing will stop you from getting there
- If you believe you are set out to do something, than nothing wills top you. There will be people putting you down and you must get angry from their foolish assumptions. They are only assumptions and hate, and you must use it as fuel to your fire. You are meant to be what you want to be, and nothing will stop you.
- Freedom is perceived wrong in society. Sure some people are free to buy certain things, but they are not truly free inside. Being free allows you to make certain decisions that you want do make. It allows you to control your life and your deep desire and needs. You may have a job that pays and allows you freedom, but you have a boss that prevents you from inner freedom.
- If you have a strong ego, no negative actions towards you will ever hurt you. You are strong enough to endure anything and be completely secured of whom you are.

Push Beyond Your Limits – Self-Belief

Chapter 9
Too many people limit themselves nowadays, and they only have themselves to blame. Your sense of who you are will determine your actions and what you end up getting in life. If you put self-limiting belief son yourself, then you will get what little you expect to receive. Always aim higher, ask for more, and believe that you’re destined for something great. Your sense of self-worth comes from you alone, not from others. When you have an increased confidence, you will take risks that increase your chances of success, and people will begin to follow you.
Untying yourself from the opinions of others and your own is an incredibly difficult task. The truth is, we are creatures of habits and unless we guard our thoughts, mindsets, and choose to change, most of us will continue to do what we do and go on a path of failure and mediocrity. I feel pretty lucky I chose to get rid of my self-limiting beliefs a while back. Sometimes the only person really stopping us is ourselves. Nowadays, it seems easy to believe in what I believe, but I do remember how far I’ve come in terms of guarding my mind and changing my mindsets. However, to get rid of my self-limiting beliefs, I had to hit a threshold of pain so intense that I was forced to change. This threshold was hit in my sophomore year of college. In high school, I was never extremely socially adept and this carried over to college. I remember sitting in my apartment, hearing the sounds of people going out and having fun, and just feeling like crap. It was a terrible experience, and I vowed to change and challenge everything holding me back. I felt that the worst case scenario was that even if I tried, my beliefs would be realized and then I would know I was right. But on the other hand, if what I believed was wrong, then there was so much out there for me to gain.
In addition, I think it’s always wise to bet on yourself. It’s easy to shrink in the face of fear and possible failure, but this does signify a lack of confidence in yourself to carry over to better times. One thing I’ve noticed is that although you need others to guide you along your path, ultimately, you have to believe in yourself and choose what’s right for you. Sometimes the best compass really is you and your gut. In order to develop that “gut instinct” for success, you have to start out by believing in your abilities and potential. For me, I feel that what I want to accomplish in life is no longer a question of my ability or potential, but more about developing the necessary skill sets to be successful.
